Iso-Pentyl nitrite (0.9 mL, 6.8 mmol) and copper (II) chloride (0.938 g, 5.5 mmol) were suspended in CH3CN (25 mL), and the mixture was stirred at 65 C. for 30 min. A solution of 6-bromobenzo[d]thiazol-2-amine (I-2) (1 g, 4.37 mmol) in THF (20 mL) was added dropwise, and the resulting mixture was stirred at 85 C. for 1 h. The mixture was allowed to cool to RT, poured into 20% HCl (200 mL), filtered, and the cake was washed with water (50 mL). The crude product was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel (200-300 mesh) eluting with petroether/ethyl acetate (40/1) to give the desired product, 6-bromo-2-chlorobenzo[d]thiazole (701) (0.58 g, 53.7% yield) as a pale solid.
