A solution of ethyl 5-amino-2-methylthiazole-4-carboxylate (1.7 g, 9.0 mmol), 1-bromo-2- methoxyethane (1.2 g, 9.0 mmol) and C52CO3 (4.4 g, 13.5 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was heatedto 50 C for 7 hours and then cooled to r.t. The crude product was purified by reverse phaseC18 column chromatography (MeCN/H20) to give ethyl 5-((2-methoxyethyl)amino)-2-methylthiazole-4-carboxylate as an orange oil (850 mg, 3.48 mmol, 39%).
