To a stirred solution of 6-bromobenzo[d]thiazol-2-amine (2.50 g, 10.7 mmol) and DMAP (1.33 g, 12.8 mmol) in 20 mL CH2Cl2 at 0 C, was added acetic anhydride (1.23 mL, 13.0 mmol) in 5 mL CH2Cl2 dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 h before 1 N HCl (20 mL) was added.
