To a stirred solution of 6-bromobenzo[d]thiazol-2-amine I-2 (229 g, 1.0 mol), pyridine (237 g, 3.0 mol) and DMAP (1.0 g) in anhydrous THF (1800 mL) at 10 C., CH3COCl (87 g, 1.1 mol) was added dropwise and the temperature was kept below 20 C. The resulting mixture was allowed to warm to RT and stirred overnight. The mixture was poured into H2O (2000 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (2000 mL). The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4 and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was suspended in chloroform (1200 mL), heated to reflux for 20 min. and then cooled to RT. The precipitate was collected by filtration and further dried in vacuo to afford the desired product, N-(6-bromobenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl) acetamide (I-3) (231 g, 85% yield) as a white solid.
